THE BIG STORY

OTHER STORIES

  • Another conference in VR, this time in the HR industry. Genius Ventures Inc and BentoHR have partnered with Microsoft to present the Global HR Summitin VR, the first offered of its kind.

  • I love quirky uses of VR; how about blowing out candles? Extend Robotics used a robot to light up candles 50 miles away, during the birthday of one of their engineers. Lovely.

  • Want to try out an AR gig? LadBible is working with Yungblud to make it happen.

  • Iron Man VR is (finally) released. I tried this out last year, and thought it was an absolute blast. Well worth a go.

  • Immerse partners with bp to create a global VR training program. If you listen carefully, you can hear the money machine go brrrrrrrrr.

  • Want help growing your immersive company? Augmentor is still open for applications. Take a look, and sign up as soon as you can.

  • GlobalData released their forecast on AR/VR, and it is disappointingly vague. Lynnette Luna, Principal Analyst at GlobalData, said: “Whether the adoption trend of XR will hold up as most of the world becomes free to move about again remains to be seen. But major events such as concerts, sporting competitions, and conferences will likely move ahead this year without live fans in attendance, giving XR the opportunity to shine. However, hardware and a complete XR ecosystem are still evolving.”

    • (This is the equivelent of someone waving in the general direction of somewhere, and going 'well it could work out')

  • Want to learn Unity AR/VR for teaching education? Unity is launching a course on using the platform for education. This includes using AR and VR tech. Check it out.

  • Facebook unveiled its AI supersampling for VR displays. In really basic terms, it makes a low-resolution image look a lot better. If it works as advertised, it could be amazing.

  • You know how much I love sensible and powerful applications of VR in healthcare, and this is no exception. Health Scholars announced a partnership with CareerCert which will expand their online training to include VR. This will help emergency and healthcare departments receive consistent, accessible, experience-based ACLS training that can save lives in their community.

PEOPLE MOVES

  • Peggy Johnson is the new CEO of Magic Leap. Can the former vice president of business development at Microsoft turn the company around?

  • Alex Merckx is joining Cognitant Group as Director of Marketing and Partnerships. Alex will oversee the company’s growth across areas of healthcare as it develops communications solutions using a variety of innovative technologies.

    • “Cognitant is driven by an urgent need to provide technology solutions for an over-burdened healthcare service. We strongly believe that access to clear, clinically approved patient information will help people to better understand and manage their health.”

Daniel Dyboski-Bryant co-founded Educators in VR with Lorelle VanFossen, an open global, cross-platform network of learners, teachers, trainers, and researchers meeting, learning and collaborating in and with VR.
