The Immersive Wire - 24 February 2025

Executive summary

Welcome to your weekly briefing on the metaverse and spatial computing. Here are your snippets to sound smarter in meetings this week:

I made a terrarium with a plant called Steve. Steve is dying after just a month. My thumbs are as green as Barbie’s wardrobe.

Top story

Meta is investing $50mn into the Meta Horizon Creator Fund.

  • What is the fund for? It gives monetisation opportunities for creators, including bonuses, digital item sales, and competitions.

  • What else was launched? A new Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor, featuring advanced creation tools, TypeScript support, custom model imports, and AI-powered features like sound and script generation.

  • What’s the significance? It’s less the money, and more the desktop experience. If it’s a way to make experiences via the browser, I can see a competitor to Roblox rise up.
