HTC VIVE and Immerse UK launched the UK Immersive Tech: VC Investment Report.

  • The report gives a great insight into the UK market - so if you want a deep dive into what the VR/AR landscape is like in the British Isles, then it's well worth a peek.

  • The report also included 21 companies to keep an eye on - all of which I recommend following closely.

In addition, the investor survey results caught my eye. Some findings include:

  • Up or down? Nearly two-thirds think overall investment into VR/AR will change over 12 months;

  • Blame the pandemic: Over a third agree that the pandemic led to an increase in appetite for VR/AR investment;

  • Interest areas: AR enterprise and XR infrastructure remain the most interesting areas for investors.

 Reports like these give a great insight into the complexity of the market. A surge in spending is certainly keeping companies buoyed through the pandemic. The general sentiment is that the new technologies will help workers collaborate better, and that the technology will really help develop new skills in the workforce. The findings fall in line with current industry know-how. But how many companies will survive the pandemic - or perhaps should? As government support recedes over time, it is likely that several 'zombie' companies that should have failed will collapse. Some of these will likely be VR/AR companies, though it is difficult to say which ones.But in the meantime, investors seem happy to keep spending on a technology they are hopeful for. The trend may be a post-pandemic boost, or dip. We'll know for sure in 2022.

What companies would you invest in, if you had $1,000,000?
