Bytedance, the owner of TikTok,
Mirroring Facebook's endeavours in immersive, the social media company is also dabbling with virtual reality via an up and coming VR start-up. No price tag has been disclosed.
We do not know Bytedance's wider strategy with Pico, so it is worth taking a close look as the story develops.
We also don't know how much of Bytedance's business model - social media and data collection for ads - will bleed into Pico's future design.
Pico could benefit from a second-mover's advantage. Facebook splurged billions of dollars into a slow-growing market, and while the headsets and ecosystem has grown healthily, it is largely due to the large resources that Facebook has deployed to kick-start a self-sustaining ecosystem. Then along comes Bytedance and Pico, who are tapping into the market without spending the large amount that the previous company has done. A good way to save money while building on the foundations.
No Man's Sky released a new update where you are the mayor of an alien town, available on
Why mention this as a top story, you may ask? Because No Man's Sky had an epic story of redemption, and the update is another example of their strong relationship with their customers.
After a catastrophic launch, No Man's Sky started a course for improvement that surfed for many years, riding the hate and coming out with update after update of improvements, fixed, and additions. The addition of VR is one example, winning them several awards for the immersion and implementation.
The newest update is one of many, and highlights their continued strength in customer loyalty and earning trust. This video gives a great overview of what happened.
