Immersive Arts has a funding programme that ends 2 December

The Immersive Wire - 21 October 2024 (Briefing)

Executive summary

Welcome to your weekly briefing on the metaverse and spatial computing. Here are your snippets to sound smarter in meetings this week:

  • Funding: Immersive Arts has a funding programme that ends 2 December.

  • Event: The Immersive Wire and City, University of London are working together for another networking event on 27 November. Come along! I am also looking for speakers, so please email if you’re interested (tom (at) immersivewire (dot) com).

  • Stat of the week: 23,000 Emirates crew will go through VR training.

  • Other stories: The Infinite Museum is asking for contributors, and King’s College London is running a trial where participants use VR to alleviate cocaine addiction (a few more below).

I am part of a Fantasy Bake Off league (I know) and I am not doing as well as I hope.

Chatter

With a lighter news week, I thought to give a personal update:

  • On the Immersive Wire front, it’s ticked along nicely through this year as normal. The events in collaboration with City, University of London are a highlight, as it is an opportunity to meet you together. Goal is to consider how else it can expand without ruining my social life.

  • On the personal side, I am continuing to write more widely. I am reviewing London plays, and at the stage in my life where I want to be trying out new things. I’m even doing a salsa class - wish me luck. If you have any recommendations, pop me an email at tom (at) immersivewire (dot) com.

  • Coming up, I will be in Rotterdam for Immersive Tech Week, then Brussels for Stereopsia. I hope to see some of you at either.

  • Bristol Digital Game Lab is hosting a workshop series on XR storytelling, with expressions of interest ending on 25 October.

  • Cornerstone VR partnered with the University of Birmingham and Sandwell Children’s Trust (SCT) to host virtual child protection training for social care professionals.

  • The Infinite Museum is asking for contributors.

  • King’s College London is running a trial where participants use VR to alleviate cocaine addiction.

  • PulseJet, the new app from San Francisco's leading VR Music Studio, is now available to download.
