Analysis

Finland unveiled its strategy to be a metaverse global leader by 2035.

  • How? The strategy aims to surpass €30bn in annual industry turnover by 2035, and aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It will focus on setting up research areas, promoting business cooperation, and attracting talent.

  • Separately, EU lawmakers voted on a report advocating the development of metaverse technologies so that the bloc is not reliant on countries outside of the EU.

  • Jani Vallirinne, who spearheads the initiative, went into further detail with Metaverse.EU: “The initiative will start five new Metaverse In Action programs, each with its targets. Two programs, Business Networks and Technology Enablers, form the base for the other three application programs. The application programs are Metaverse Society, Metaverse Health and the Industrial Metaverse. In all these programs, companies and research organisations will apply for research projects and create business opportunities together.”

  • More details on the report can be found here.
