Analysis
EssilorLuxottica has a little back and forth with Meta and Google, according to reports.
What’s happening? Meta would like to buy 5% of EssilorLuxottica, the company that makes Ray-Bans. Talks are advanced according to many reports. At the same time, Google apparently approached the company’s leadership about putting its Gemini AI assistant in future smart glasses.
Are they battling it out? Who knows. There is no substantiation to any board room shenanigans happening at the European firm. But smart glasses are ripe for innovation, and having a key AI partner is an interesting battlefield to contend with.
