What are the basic principles of an open metaverse?
The Immersive Wire - 18 December 2023 (Monday Briefing)
Executive summary
Welcome to your weekly briefing on the metaverse and spatial computing. Here are your snippets to sound smarter in meetings this week:
Article: I outlined the basic economic principles of the open metaverse (analysis below).
Conversation-starter: Nicki Minaj has entered Roblox with the launch of 'Nicki Minaj's Gag City'.
(The announcement made me gag a little, too).
Other stories: The American Metaverse Awards will be held on 17 April 2024 in Miami, the Alliance for OpenUSD added Epic Games, Meta and Unity to its ranks, and Virtualware has been awarded a €1.5m contract by the Basque Government (more below).
Holiday: The Immersive Wire will be taking a break next week (25 December).
Have an excellent festive week! Also, I spoke to Press Gazette about how publishers may be using AI, referencing the Immersive Wire’s own work.
Analysis
I outlined the basic economic principles of the open metaverse. The basic principles are:
Open flow of virtual goods and services
Open travel of users between virtual locations
An interoperable conversation system between users
Avatars that can be worn in any virtual location
A hardware-agnostic open metaverse
Clear regulations and rules.
More details in the article here. This is meant to form the bedrock of a major piece coming in 2024. Until then, see ya!
