Over the last year, I have noticed that Immersive Wire readers want two things: a short digest of the news that matters; and a longer analysis on important trends. It is difficult to service both in the same email, so I decided to make a new edition for Sunday.

, but in summary:

  • Wednesdays: Readers receive a concise VR/AR digest of the news that matters, with light analysis;

  • Sundays: Readers receive a longer analysis usually for the main story, with a Q&A from an interesting person I've come across in the industry. The Q&A next weekend will be with Timmy Ghiurau, Innovation Lead at Volvo Cars.

This means the Wednesday newsletter can be even shorter, dedicated to being a digest for the people who don't have enough time during their work day. On Sundays, as work ebbs down and people sit with their tea or coffee, readers can read something slightly longer with insights from executives. I hope you enjoy the new format, and if you have any questions please let me know!

Top story, with analysis

Want to contribute a new story? Send an email to tom (at) virtualperceptions (dot) com.Microsoft showed off Microsoft Mesh, and it profiles their software-first approach.

  • At Microsoft Ignite, the company showcased what is best described as immersive Microsoft Teams. While dozens of companies are exploring the application of mixed reality technologies in meetings, Microsoft batted out their own solution.

  • Perhaps most importantly, it works across HoloLens 2, 'most virtual reality headsets,' PCs, and phones/tablets, with plans to add to Teams in the future. A software-focused approach rather than on hardware, which makes sense for a company that provides core services.

  • With the technology there, I now wonder which type of devs will use it. Will it mostly be gaming (Niantic demonstrated an example), or perhaps business-orientated? I presume the latter, but it's interesting that Microsoft used consumer examples in their B2B keynote.
