Analysis
Apple is discussing making a cheaper headset, using an iPhone chip and no external display.
According to Bloomberg, the aim is to make a headset that is between $1,500 and $2,500 using chips on the lower end of power. The headset could have launched in 2025 but has been pushed back, according to sources.
Why does it matter? As a price-elastic market, a cheaper headset would capture more of the market. But with such a long tail for immersive hardware, it looks like the first generation will be around for at least a year.
